The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) is a not-for-profit organization that accredits care providers. While accreditation may be expensive and difficult, it not only provides assurance of quality and integrity, but offers the public a standard for comparison in evaluating retirement communities.
The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) represents 5,600+ mission-driven, not-for-profit nursing homes, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living and senior housing facilities, and home and community-based service providers.
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that evaluates the quality and safety of care for nearly 16,000 health care organizations. To maintain and earn accreditation, organizations must have an extensive on-site review by a team of JCAHO health care professionals, at least once every three years to evaluate performance.
